Uncle Sam Can't Take Me
by: Krystal Grajalez Pérez
Uncle Sam knocked on our door he entered without waiting for a response
-Mamá, que quiere? Why is he here?
-I come to promise riches, democracy and prosperity
My heart started to beat, all this for nothing, how lucky can we be?
When I looked at Mommies eyes tears rolled down her cheeks
-Why are you sad, how could it be, Its rich Uncle Sammy, and hes here for me
-He had visited once before and took your Papi
He gave him no option,
He took him to defend his country
Anger, resentment and impotencia
All of a sudden took over me,
He took my Papi’s life and now hes come for me
-No llores mi viejita,
Uncle Sam fooled Papi, but I am smarter and wiser
You taught me what being Puerto Rican means,
I am proud and stronger,
Uncle Sam cant take that from me,
I'm Boricua de pura sepa,
I’ll honor la vida Papi gave to me!
